Can someone suggest a good video projector to be used for Powerpoint
presentations. I do not want to spend more than $2K. I need a portable
unit that will work for groups as large as 75 to 100 and small conference
rooms as well. So far it seems the Dell 3200, Viewsonic PJ250 and PJ350 all
fit the bill. Has anyone had experience with these units and if these are
not a good fit, do you have another suggestion?

Thanks.

I got curious and started looking out there. There are many, many
projectors that fit your stated needs.
Try some of these sites:
www.presentingsolutions.com
www.projectorcentral.com
www.zdnet.com
www.epinions.com

Just as a side note. Do not be fooled by the ones that say they can run
PowerPoint without an external computer. I haven't run across one that
really runs PowerPoint in any version. What they do is fake PowerPoint by
taking pictures of the slides and showing them in sequence. So ... no
animations, transitions, movies, etc. Their "PowerPoint" version is even
worse than PP Viewer '97.

There are three other considerations.
1. How much noise does the projectors cooling system make?
2. The projector should have true 1024X768 resolution
3. Is the projector bight enough for your needs?

The noise is very important if you want to use the projector in a board
room. Resolution is more a factor of what you are trying to show. 800X600
may be enough for your application; however, if you do need 1024X768 make it
is TRUE resolution not simulated 1024X768 on a true 800X600. The brightness
is important when it comes to teaching where people will need light to write
notes. Sometimes, getting the room dark enough leads to too dark of a room
and people will not pay attention to your presentation because they are
groping one another.

I use the NEC LT260. It is more than the two bucks you want to spend. One
it's features is that the image is directed up so that it will hit a screen
a two to tree feet above a normal table while sitting flat on the table. No
keystone effect. Make sure you get something that is small enough for you
to carry on the airplane. NEVER EVER check this puppy.
