best video driver for linux

I am running mandriva 2007 Linux and have a radeon x1300pro and the ati
fglrx driver is giving me a lot of trouble, is there an alternative?????

If you want 3D graphics enabled, no.

then do you know some way to have the driver reinitialize the video card
completely, the vpu receiver or vbetool or something like that, on every
consul switch

by reinitialize the card I mean like I rebooted the computer or the vpu
receiver was activated.

I don't know which version of X mandriva uses, but with xorg 7.1, the
open source radeon driver seems to work for me (I'm using Fedora Core 6).
3D and all - of course, it took a while to get configured so it would work
reliably:

Nope. If I could have figured that out, I wouldn't have switched to a
Nvidia card.

what card do you have, acording to the dri project website no
acseleration is avalible for the x1300 at all
