Hey Everyone, I know you will have all answered this question about a million times, but just wondering what you would all consider to be the Uk's best broadband I.S.P? Im thinking of changing supplier. I am currently with AOL. Whats anyones thoughts? thanks for anyone who helps

well ditch aol they might be one of the worst isp's in the uk i am on bt never had any probs but i know there are alot of people who dont like bt. Also welcome to the forums

Plusnet are awesome. Im with them.

If you decide to go for them "thepostillfamily" is our referall name - save my parents 50p a month for doing nothing, and when you reccomend them to other people, shoudl you want to, you will save money too! Thats what i love about it, apart from the good service and features.

Have a look at This and make up your own mind ;)

I've been with Zen for almost 2 years now, I won't say it's the best just because I use it, but I'm happy with it.

Last year PC Pro voted Zen best ADSL ISP and it was also voted Best Light Business ISP. Not the cheapest, but I've had no probs, no contention, a Gig of web space, no download limits and one month's minimum contract, not 12 months, as is usually the case.

Hi,

I am with bt as well, no real problems. The only broadband provider I have tried so can't compare.
Will warn you though you will have a hell of a job to remove AOL from your computer if you decide to change.
Good luck

I have been with FreeNetName for many years now and for the past 12 months or so have been using their Broadband. they are just a plainand simple ISP with no frills but there service is the best I have found and I have tried a few. It has the bonus of you having your own unique Web site and of course your own unique email address.

Best at what? I can't apologise for being cynical but the provider of broadband services in this country is BT. So to whom you choose tp pay the bill is really a matter of joining another lottery.

What complicates the issue is the software that is installed on your computer by ISPs such as AOL. Last April my present computer came with AOL installed & I have only recently removed what I believe to be the last traces of a system I didn't want & never used!

It dosen't quite work like that mate.

Then how does it work?

I ask because I cannot believe that my ISP has access to the BT exchange where my connection from the local loop is that carries my telephone service. So my ISP has no technical or practical input into the service I receive. My understanding is that is all down to BT. At least until the local loop is unbundled.

As far as I am aware my ISP provides a technical support service at a premium call rate, pays BT for the provision of broadband services to its subscribers & invoices me. This for the privprivilegebeing able to make a profit for a price considerably less than I would have to pay BT for the same service.

give bulldog a go

always look at their TEMPTING offers....

been with em around 2 years now

The ISP pays BT for use of their lines and bandwidth.

The ISP then use servers, admin staff, staff to provide a helpline, staff to keep the servers updated and functioning well. They provide dedicated servers with backup and altogether keep things running smoothly.

In short, a good ISP does NOT rely on BT to be the be-all and end-all for everything, they actually make an effort and liase with BT should BT present a problem.

Cheaper ISP's rely on BT too much and are only concerned with incoming revenue.

Decent ISP's niggle at BT and make an effort. And that's why you pay more for a good service.

Simplistic, but true.
