The Ati 950X Pro XM 16channel sound card!

Blah! Ati doesn't makes soundcards.

$350.. depends... for gaming you probably can use creative sets... or
logitech sets...those generally are reasonable.

Hi,
yes! go to an audio forum and ask that question :P

The reason why I ask here is because there tends to be a lot of lurking
gaming enthusiasts on this group and I usally get pretty good advice. Of
course, as you have demonstrated, there are also a lot of goof balls as
well. :-)

Well Uncle Tom did a few tests with card and either an NFORCE2 chipset
or an Creative Audigy II will take the most work of your processor in
games. But self I have an Audigy II and can highly advice it.

What boxes you then need...depends on what you then have left!

I agree. Isn't is amazing how in an environment that lends itself to
helping people, somebody actually wastes their time purely to be
obstructive?

OT, but since everybody is anwering anyway -
I'm very satisfied with my Audigy2 sound card paired with Klipsch Promedia
speakers. Total: about $200.

You really would probably do better to go to one of the audio newsgroups.
Personally I'm using Logitech Z-680s and like them, and the price is
reasonable, but Klipsch, Midiland, Videologic, Altec-Lansing, and JBL all
make decent systems in your price range or maybe a wee bit more (raise it
ten bucks and you open a lot of territory)--which is currently the best I
don't know. To some extent it also depends on your ears and your intended
use.

I have been thinking about getting a decent sound setup as well. At the
moment I am using a crappy AC97 on-board sound chip and an old Hi Fi amp
(Cambridge audio)
I'm thinking Audigy 2, but I hear that the audigy has issues with ATI
cards... any particular combinations that don't work well? I'm using a 9500
pro.

If I can work out a good 5.1 card, I'm thinking megaworks THX for the sound
drivers. Comes well recommended, although pricy... but then I work from
home and listen to CDs constantly on the computer, so I should get lots of
wear out of it ;)

I am very happy with my NForce 2 mobo (Asus A7N8X Deluxe) audio and am
using a Giggabyte 9700 Pro.

Mmm, nice deal. Klipsch is very good stuff!

As Audigy II owner I must agree..those soundcards rock.. and have the
lowest CPU usage during gaming ( though some nvidia chipsets get
closer and closer!
