As this is my first thread on this site i better start with current PC

amd athlon 2000+xp
512ddr ram
fx 5700 le just upgraded from g4 mx440 64
80 gb hhd

Looking to buy a new PC with gaming in mind preferably pre built looking around found this
amd x2 3800
2gb ddr400 ram
X800gto
160gb hhd
17" benq tft

now should i stick with the x2 cpu and get the X800gto
or go for a
64 bit 3000 with twin 128 6600gt SLi

when you say buy do you mean build yourself or prebuilt ? how much are you looking to spend ?

ok i found this

AMD Athlon 64 4400+ X2 Dual Core Processor with 2000MHz HyperTransport Technology
2x1GB (2GB) Dual DDR 400 (PC3200) Branded Memory
256MB NVIDIA Geforce 6800 PCI Express Graphics
2x200GB (400GB) Ultra-Fast SATA (150Mbps) Hard Disk Drive

for gaming is it better than

64 bit 3000 with twin 128 6600gt SLi
2gb ram

Depends on what price your paying, and how often you upgrade. None of them specs are gaming monsters. And you could do better. The 1st spec machine you show (the dual core one) has everything you could dream of, then a nasty plain ole vanilla 6800. Now if that had a 6800GT, or 2 6600GT's it would be a gaming monster. The 6800 will bottleneck for definate and let the whole system down.

The other comp has an oldish AMD64 3000+, which is ok, but you should be looking at 3500+ for gaming nowadays. On the other hand it has 2 lovely 6600GT's running in SLI.

Both have 2gig of ram, which is always a bonus for gaming, the more ram the better.

If I had to choose outta those 2, it would 100% without a shadow of doubt be the dual core machine (the 4400+ one). Its got alot more life behind it, and you can always upgrade the graphics card when ever you want.

If you could tell us the prices, then it would be easier, like how much cheaper is the AMD64 3000+ rig compared to the AMD64 X2 4400+ ?

Noy sure about sacrificing memory for 2x 6600gt sli

im looking for prebuilt as i dont have the experianceof pc building yet looking at just under £1100

If you want to play lots of games an 80Gb hard disk will soon be full up.

Basically, it looks ok, but it doesn't give the brands of memory, monitor, optical drives, case or power supply.

You could be buying a load of crap.

Who you proposing to buy this from?

Just had a thought - find a forum member who lives near you, let us spec the parts, and they'll put it altogether for you for around £80.00, petrol money/bus fare and a pint of beer :D

It looks ok for gamin, but not upgrading.

It looks like a minitower mother.

The mother board is kinda short on PCI slots. I allways build PCs with at least 5 slots and the PCs that are my own Media PC has 5 its filled, and it seems like I need more that 5.

Im going too get a mother with more.
