best solution for e-faxing signed papers

i regularly need to fax signed copies of various letters, forms, and other
official papers ...

rather than use a voice-line fax, i would like to print the page, sign it,
scan it back in, and fax it over the internet ...

is anyone doing this type of thing on a regular basis?

can anyone recommend a solution?

could include any of the following:
web-site service
software (commercial or freeware)
internet fax services
other solutions ...

Quite a few questions you have....

First off, every time you print and scan you lose some quality. I'm not sure
what type of documents you're sending, ones you've created or ones you've
received.

Whenever I create a document which needs my signature, I create the document
with software that allows me to insert a graphics file. (Most office suites
allow you to do this.) I insert my scanned signature in the document this
way.

You can use a similar technique with documents created by other people. Here
you will need to scan it in, but instead of printing it, use a graphics
program to insert your scanned signature before you fax it away.

Yes, there are a few web-based fax services that will send and receive faxes
for you over the web.

What software do you use to create/insert the graphics file?
 
I use Presto Pagemanager to scan the signature, then I save it to a folder
for later use. However, many, many graphics apps will let you scan. For
instance, the freeware Irfanview program has a File > Acquire function for
doing just that. Usually you'll find that capability in the File menu.

I've used Staroffice and OpenOffice to compose documents and that's where I
insert the signature. I think any office suite will let you do this, as well
as some text editors.
