which is the best printer for everything

What price range? "Everything" is pretty all-encompassing. How many photo's
per month do you expect to print? How much general plain paper stuff? How
many B&W pages? How large do the prints need to be? A/A4? or up to E/A0? Do
you want a single function printer or an all-in-one? How do you want to
connect it to your computer(s)? Parallel, USB, wired or wireless networking,
??? What OS? Dos, Win 98, XP, MAC OS ver xxx, ?

There are a lot more details you need to specify about what is important before
the group here can make any reasonable recommendations. For my needs the
Officejet 7310 or 7410 look pretty good - print, scan, fax, copy, photo card
slots, support photo cartridges including a gray cartridge for B&W photos, USB
or wired or wireless networking and automatic two sided printing. Your needs
will likely be different.

I'm afraid it's probably one that hasn't yet been made.

There are both issues of type of printer technologies (Dye sub, laser,
inkjet, ribbon, color, B&W, solid ink, etc.) and within each group
printers have different strong points based upon design, ink or toner
type, size, of output, speed, etc..

You need to be much more specific to get anything approaching an answer
that will be helpful to you.
