Hello,
What are the best practices/procedures to edit boot.ini
in conjunction with removing a operating system and if I
save a backup copy of the boot.ini file how do I
reinstall it if I have to?

Hi Jerome,

Start/run msconfig, go to the boot.ini tab and click "check all boot paths".
This should prompt you to remove invalid ones. Otherwise, open it in notepad
and remove only the line referencing the unwanted listing from the
[operating systems] section, do not touch anything else. Close saving
changes.

Note the special properties of the boot.ini file, if you back it up to
CD or some other folder. Probably not vital, but ...

C:\>attrib +H +S C:\boot.ini
