The ERD diskette or the ntbackup "ERD" process (with "Also backup the
registry to...")?
Have you looked at ERUNT?

Roll-your-own or commercial (and perhaps centrally managed)?
I guess what I wonder the most is if you need to run something on a
server that goes out and gets workstation data, or just copy wksta
files (to another location) created by a local (scheduled perhaps)
process, or just want the registry peridically backed up locally on
each system...
More info about your requirements may help someone provide better
information.
Thank you for reply, What we are trying to do is use an
automated system to collected the necessary information,
like registry, boot files, COM+ files,(basically system
state) etc. while the system is live so that it it were to
go down or say a patch blue screens a system, we can then
quickly restore to a previous time. Looks like Veritas
netbackup does not do the trick like they thought and is
not that easy to do a restore with. =(
A registry backup would not fully suffice for this issue.
We have over 500 systems in 2 datacenters and over 1200
systems globaly that we are looking to run this on. And
yes we need something that we do not have to go to each
console.
We are considering the Aelita ERD software for this
solution but we are looking for any information that other
companies and individuals have done with native tools to
create a centrally managed system. Or something that is
equally in value but at a lower cost.
Thank you!
