Hi all,

Sorry for my english. I used povray and poliray without modeller
(...)or with moray in MSDOS (shareware). After that many others
modellers or modellers&renders in windows that I can't remember.
Povray+Moray was the best in all my comparisons. The exception was
perhaps TrueSpace 1 (modeller+render commercial but was free for
magazines and even in the webs...), good modeller, fast render, but
very basic for some things (not true spheres, etc.), not good for
very complex scenes.

After that, Blender in Linux/Windows (very good, powerful, but the
interface is a pain), and Moonlight (Linux only) that is excellent,
but for years is a stopped project. Well, also povray in Linux and
some front-ends (kpovray perhaps is the best ...but not at the level
of a very old Moray)...many others too.

After years, I still searching "the best". What is in your opinion
the best (easy-light-fast-complete-powerfull-fast-easy) modeller &
render to make amateur (but not simple) 3D scenes?

Best regards,

Hi:

I looked at many 3D renderers/modelers, and found the best was NOT freeware,
but low cost ($300). Out of all I looked at, the one I found comercial was
the app I chose. It is what keeped me interested..

However there is a Modfeler out there (3D polly) called wings 3D. Not a
texturer, but still good..

lookup metasequoia it is a nice polly modeler. has a free non comercial use
licence i think, and not sure what you'd use to paint the models
(textre/decal).

Caligari has made available TrueSpace 3.2 as Register-Ware (free).

I always thought it to be cool with the way it used Boolean functions
for its basic modeling. I believe that it can also do fast scan-line
renders as well as raytracing, but that was awhile ago, and I'm a
"seasoned citizen"...I have trouble remembering yesterday :-}

The 3.2 version is newer than the one I used for a commercial project
back in the mid-nineties.

Don't know if PovRay has any new front end programs, or what file
types it can import. I believe that it is on the same major release
version that I played with quite awhile ago.
