My daughter needs a faster scanner than her small $70 USB unit as she¹s
scanning lots of images for Powerpoint lectures, etc. What is a good
Firewire scanner at a reasonable cost. She doesn¹t need top-of-the line.
Thanks in advance.

You're asking the3 wrong question.
1. Only middle to top end scanners have firewire.
2. Scan speed has almost nothing to do with whether the connection is
USB2 or firewire (almost nothing because the sustained transfer rate
in real world terms is always higher on a firewire connection - but
not enough to make a real difference).
So, your questions should be:
Based on x number of images, how fast does the scanner need to be?
What resolution does she need for the images?
Does she need a document (i.e. image) feeder?
When you've answered those questions yourself, I'm sure people will be
glad to offer advice when you post again.
