best linkage of PowerPoint and excel?

Starting a automation project which will generate quarterly PowerPoint
reports containing 100s of charts/data from multiple excel sheets. Have
been searching for a bulletproof method to either link excel charts
with powerpoint or link data to powerpoint charts. The powerpoint
layout will not change quarter to quarter, just the data will change.
Have been using the "Paste Link" command but it seems there must be a
better way, especially since you can't really make modifications to the
excel sheet without screwing everything up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

www.take-off.as/datapoint could offer a solution too. With that add-on you
can link a graph in powerpoint to databases and excel files and have your
graph updated automatically. With 1 click only you can regenerate a new
static presentation with refreshed graph data (after you have done all the
linking work once!).
