Hi Guys,

What's the quietest, coolest hard drive cooler that I can get? There are a
few types on e-bay, so I am not sure which ones cool best and/or
quieter..please help me!!!!!! I am getting a 10K SCSI drive from Seagate
cheetah and would like to keep it nice and cool...

No fan so it's 100% silent (itself). But it does requires the 3.5"
drive be mounted in a 5.25" bay because of the use of their vibration
dampener studs. That's what I'll be testing out when I try to silence
my existing computer.

Actually, you could use elastic cord to suspend the hard drive in a
5.25" bay. Give the cord a twist and insert the drive in the middle
"slot" between the twists. Use 2; one for suspending the back and
another for suspending the rear. Absolutely no vibration gets
transferred from the drive to the chassis. Hopefully the Zalman
vibration dampening studs work well, too. The problem with the
suspension cords or vibration dampening studs is that the heat from the
drive does not get conducted away to the chassis. That's why I like
Zalman's solution in which heat pipes help to radiate away the heat to
keep the drive cooler, especially important for SCSI drives which run
hotter. Obviously a quiet drive helps.

I have not tried this solution yet but it looks good. Of course, just
because they produce it doesn't mean you can find one. I haven't
bothered to check yet if I can actually order one.
