I would like a calculator with a tape record, Binary/hex/dec, but don't
need any programming features.

What are the candidates?

Do a Google search for TapeCalc 1.00
It's free and has a tape. The only drawback is having to copy/paste the tape
into wordpad if you want a printed copy. All the others I have found with a
tape have some better features but are not freeware

Or you can try TapeCalc 2 http://www.eastfree.org/wf_load.htm.
The link is at the very bottom of the page.

Check the entire "Scientific Calculator Suggestions" thread in acf
from mid-September in the Google ng archive. This link will take you
to the most extensive list. Calc98 does not have a tape.

A somewhat unusual alternative continues to grow on me. I think of
Dicom as a calculator implemented as a word processor. This requires
a concious mental "reset" to get started, but with a little practice
and planning it is very nice. I haven't tried computer math in it.
