Just curious as to what ppl have found to be the best software with a 9800.
I used to use PowerDVD as my only player but ever since upped from a gf3 to
a 9800 overlay in PDVD doesnt work well. Only way can play a disc and have
it display correctly is to go full screen and then hit play otherwise if in
windowed mode its as if the overlay image is painted BEHIND the ovelay
surface. This also happens on another box in which I have a fx5600 card so
am thinking its an issue of PowerDVD not handling newer cards that are out
correctly.

Unfortunatly my card was an OEM Sapphire card so when I scanned the install
disc saw no type of dvd player there to try. Any advice or suggestions ,
other than rude ones hehe, would be appreciated.

Which version of PowerDVD? I'm using version 3 w/patch and haven't
noticed what you describe. But, go try out the Platinum version of
WinDVD, there is a 30 day demo, it's quite nice. On the downside, it's
rather expensive to buy. If you are using XP you can just install the
DVD codecs supplied by ATI on your driver cdrom and then get updated
codecs from the ATI website, then you use Windows Media Player to
watch DVD's. It's decent but is a bit short on available options.
Really though, PowerDVD and WinDVD are the top dogs in the software
DVD market.

How does it compare with the ATI DVD player that comes with 9800 Pro AIW
card?

The Help About says "ATI DVD 8.5 (Directshow)"

The Audio setup offers to downmix to 2 speakers or passthrough to Cyberlink
Audio Renderer (ATI)
or ATI Rage Theater Audio. I have Creative Audigy 2 soundcard.. I wonder if
I can get 6.1 audio from this player ...

I don't think the built-in ATI DVD player supports hardware
playback mode anymore, does it?
