Catalyst 4.8 really working nice on 4 systems running
ATI 9800 Pro. But ... no two ways about it ..
fast writes OFF, and AGP to 4x, or you will grow to
hate those cards !!!!!!!!!!! Find both under SmartGart
tab. Might take a couple of reboots to make the settings
stick.

AGP 4X.. why? this is an 8x AGP supported card

If you have problems running at AGP 8x, it's not the 9800's fault it's
the motherboard's.

Might be, but whoever invented AGP 8x needs to try any
ATI card on the market with fast writes on, and AGP set
to 8x. He'll start out with black screens .. turn fast writes off,
and just go to lockups. Set AGP to 4x, and Far Cry will
run like a scalded dog on everything from a 9000 to a 9800
as long as the driver is Cat 4.6 or better. I've worked with
a dozen different Gigabyte mobos, and the result is always
the same no matter what the cpu is from AMD 2000+ to
P4 / 2.8 /800 to AMD 64 3000+. Every one of those PCs
has shown the exact same problem, and I made Far Cry
run well on every one of them with no glitches at all ... even
good frame rates on the 9000 in an AMD 2000+ .. and ...
god forbid ... a Gigabyte GA-7ZXE ( bleh ).

I'm running a 9800 Pro on an Asus Mobo, FW off and AGP x8, no problems at
all, runs like a charm...Cat 4.9

Ditto here with my ASUS motherboard. In fact I ran my 9800 pro for a long
time with fast writes on. I turned it off when I read that the system would
be more stable with it off. Still stable.

ABit mobo fastwrites on, AGP 8X never had any problem that required me to
turn it down or fastwrites off.

I have an ASUS mobo and a 9800pro with 4x(highest it supports) and fast
writes on and no problems that i have noticed

Same here, a built by ATI 9800 Pro - on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe V2.0 mb, agp at
8x, and FW - On.

I have both the mb and the 9800 overclocked, very stable and solid.

Same here, except on an Abit IC7 mb and I have FW on.
