In my experience, the 3.7 Catalysts are the best for all the
games/demos play, but there are a couple of games out there that need
later drivers. I would stick with 3.7 unless you find problems with
your games.

Thanks,
It's gonna be the 1st time for me with ATI and Win2k pro.

Not had any problems with any of the Cats I've tried which is from 3.6 to
3.10.

Would recommend the latest unless you get specific problems with games.

W2KPro is not very compatible with games when compared to WinXP or even Win
98/Me. If you can, go with Windows XP.

Unless you are talking a few 4+ year old games, then you may have a
point, but for any recent games, W2K Pro is the best for gaming in my
experience.

(shrug) I find my Win2K laptop every bit as good, if not better, at games
than my WinXP home computer. Hell, XP is based on WinNT just as Win2K is.

Well, my experience is, in fact, based on some older games and I've been
using XP since it came out. Sorry.

You can enable compatibility mode tabs in Windows 2000 (SP 2+) shortcuts to
run older software. Just open a command prompt and type:
regsvr32 C:\WINNT\AppPatch\slayerui.dll

Good tip!

Got no use for it myself, but its a good tip :-)

Did you install the service packs and enable compatibility mode on 2K?
It has pretty much the same compatibility features as XP.

It is true in many cases that Win2Kpro will fare just as well as XP pro with
respect to gaming. This is the result of the two OS's being built on the
same NT kernel technology and employing the same DirectX layer as a virtual
gaming platform. However, if you want to maintain maximum compatibility with
game releases it is still safer to go with XP simply because modern games
are developed and tested with XP in mind as the primary OS (consequently,
2Kpro specific issues may escape unseen and unfixed). I'd also argue with
the notion that 2K runs games "better" than XP. I'd attribute this notion to
sentiment and bias. There may be less OS and GUI overhead in 2K but this is
easily compensated for by a faster system or some basic OS tweaking.
