No ADS, No NAG, pure freeware (sourceforge)

GNU Wget - ftp://prep.ai.mit.edu/gnu/wget/

And what you mean is "open source", not "sourceforge".

DownLoadPlus is not want you want on your machine

Summary: Creates pop-up ads in your machine.

Alias: TrojanDownloader.Win32.Lalus

Category: Adware: Software that brings ads to your computer. Such ads
may or may not be targeted, but are "injected" and/or popup, and are
not displayed within the form of an ad-sponsored application. Some
Adware may hijack the ads of other companies, replacing them with its
own. See also Spyware, Browser Helper Object.

dont think anything can beat http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/
very powerful (reminds me of flashget) and clean and free

If Opera is your browser, FreshDownload is still better in one way:

It features a MIME Editor to add/remove the MIME Types/File Extensions in
the Opera plugin, so you can choose which types of files are automatically
downloaded.

| But nowhere on their site does it list which browsers it supports. Not a
| good sign...

I'm not familiar with this program but it's maybe a free standing utility
that doesn't need to interface or support any browser. It might simply
download files to where ever you instruct it to and then you open the files
with what ever program you chose. I use Flashget and instruct it from a
right click menu with out it interfacing with a browser. I find browser
integration with this program (Flashget) doesn't consistently work for all
file types and I have no problem doing it manually.
