Best Business OS

Hi,

Simply on the basis of support, WinXP is the better option. Win2000 is now
five years old and on the fourth service pack. Eventually, it will end, much
sooner than will support for WinXP.

I'm prearing a computer for a friend's office. It's 2.4 gig with 1 gig
of
ram. They have their computers networked. Which OS would be the best
2000
Pro or XP Pro.

Im not sure which NG this would apply to so I'm very sorry for the

If your friend isn't interested in ever getting support from Microsoft
(and paying for it) then either is good. Have you sat down with your
friend to note which version of Windows is supported by every piece of
software they now use to determine what they can continue to use under
Windows 2000 or XP or have to buy new software? You choose the
applications, then you find the platform they run on.

Windows 2000 mainstream support from Microsoft dies only 5 months from
now (June 2005), and extended support is pricey; see
http://support.microsoft.com/?LN=en-us&pr=lifecycle&scid=gp;[ln];lifecycle&x=15&y=12.
