I recently had a problem and had to reinstall my OS. I would like to
know what program or method is best to back up my entire OS with
files?

Make an image of the partition where you have the operating system.
Use the freeware "Partition Saving" for example.
With the lowest degree of compression it reduces the site to half of
the content, choose save only used sectors.

This works well unless you have everything on one big partition, that
means you have only a C: disk in your computer and no D: hard disk
partition.

I have a couple of win98se systems saved, and two win2000pro systems,
and one image of an empty C: partition.

So I can easily restore these operating systems whenever I want.
It takes 2-3 minutes to restore any of these systems, including all
settings, drivers, programs, etc..

Even if you have only one big partition you can back it up this way
too,but you need free space enough to save the image of the used
sectors, of course.

I think Cobian stands head and shoulders above the rest.

No, don't tell me. You are an American and you are using Windows XP?
Am I close? :)

Syncback won't copy locked or open files unless you purchase the full
edition. IMO, that's too serious of a limitation to make it worth using.

By the way Andy, when you toppost like that and the OP's original
message is placed below your sig line, that OP message disappears from
your reply, making attribution a nightmare. Please consider at least
putting your sig file all the way at the bottom.

TIA.

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett or Doc (who uses sock puppets)
for instance. No adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware,
demoware, nagware, PROmotionware, shareware, spyware, time-limited
software, trialware, viruses or warez for me, please.

Scratch my first reply.

Try Partition Logic. It will do the entire disk.
