For $250.00 or less, what is the best Asus motherboard for a 2.66 P4 with support for 800Mhz FSB (is that correct?),
400 DDR RAM, 8xAGP. What RAM would it use -- PC3200?

I don't want RAID, but onboard LAN and Sound would be fine. I need to drive at least two HD, DVD, CD-RW, IDE Tape
Drive and a third hard disk would be desireable.

Would the best choice be a P4C800, a P4G8X, or something else?

TIA,

To make your shopping list, start here:

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

Click "CPU", select "Socket 478" and "P4-2.60C 800FSB"
Here is the returned list:

Name Since PCB Since BIOS Memo
P4C800 ALL ALL
P4C800 Deluxe ALL ALL
P4C800-E Deluxe ALL ALL
P4P800 ALL ALL
P4P800 Deluxe ALL ALL
P4P800-VM ALL ALL
P4S800 ALL ALL

Add to this list, the P4PE, under the special conditions of
only using one PC3200 DIMM and using the latest BIOS:

http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/fsb800.htm

So, that is your shopping list. The price range is $90 for the P4S800
to maybe $200 for the P4C800-E. I haven't seen any posts about the
P4S800, so I don't know if people are buying these or not.

If, on the other hand, you want to buy a FSB533 processor, there are
many more options, including boards that are not dual channel. So
FSB800 places you in a more exclusive club.

Paul
