Benq monitor driver not XP approved?

I have a Benq FP 767 monitor which is Plug and Play, and appears to be
working fine.

However, in an attempt to go ahead and install the correct driver, I
get a message saying "Microsoft Strongly recommends" that I do not
install it, since it does not meet the XP seal of approval.

It says XP compatible on Benq website

it is not broke, so maybe I should not try to fix it

I get that on 80% of the drivers I use. Not a big deal.

We're talking about a PNP monitor here. The "driver" is little more
than a textfile that details what modes the monitor officially
supports. Windows usually does a pretty good job of figuring that out
on its own. Very often, you gain nothing, and sometimes, you
actually lose a bit as the manufacturer's install disks will sometimes
install some useless stuff into your tray and maybe a corporate logo
into your display properties dialog. Ok, the software isn't always
useless. It sometimes includes a screen calibration utility to help
you adjust your monitor settings, but you'll probably only need to use
that ONCE if at all.

On occasion, if Windows has a trouble detecting all the available
modes, THEN you might want to use the manufacturer driver. For
example, if the manual says that it supports 1280x1024@75Hz and the
display properties won't let you set it, then it's time to install the
manufacturer driver. Otherwise, why bother?

Since you say it works, stick with your instincts on this one.

Translation: "They haven't paid us any money to approve their driver so we
are trying to strong arm them into doing so."

From what I have read the next version won't allow you to install software
or hardware that isn't "approved" by MS. What fun huh?
