I am trying to produce a report with additional text and
spaces between fields. I created a text box and added the
following control source: -

=[Author] & ". " & [Title] & ". " & " " & [Pub_Date] & ".
Pages " & [p_no]

Quite simply, I need the title field to be in italics,
but can't find a way to do this. Basically I need it to
look like this (With 'Working out how to use Access' in
italics): -

Idiot, Complete. Working out how to use Access. 1999.
Pages 113-120.

Why can't you just select the frame that holds the TITLE and set it to
Italics from the formatting toolbar?

A standard control cannot apply formatting to only a portion of the text
within it. See my response in a similar thread

No can do in a single text box. Either use a separate text
box for the title or use an RTF control.

Stephen Lebans has examples and code for both approaches on
his web site www.lebans.com
