i would like to get a copy of the older vb and a guide to using it i am
a beginning programmer but i am familiar with coding and the like
primarily in HTML

Are you referring to VB6? Note that VB6 is not sold any more and support
has been shut down already. I recommend to check out VB 2005 instead.
