is there a way to make the motherboard supply the right voltage...head aches
head aches headaches...
any help or advice very muchly appreciated.

From other posts that I have read, the p4s8x seems to be picky about power
supply voltage. You may have a power supply vs a motherboard problem.
People with beeping baords have solve this by replacing power supplies.
Sorry I dont have more to offer in the way of specifics other than to point
you at the abxzone.com web site where they have a section on the p4s8x board
under the SIS chip forum.

If I am not mistaken, the P4S8X-X does not support a 3.3V AGP card. You will
have to get a 1.5V card. I know, they get you going and coming.

THe P4S8X is 1.5volt only.... no 3.3 cards (hence your beeping).
Replace the video
