BCMUsers Group Missing from Local Groups

I'm trying to run BCM V2 and SBA 2006 with Limited User Rights.

But the Local Security Group, BCMUsers, is missing from my Local Groups
list. So BCM will only work properly when I make myself a Local
Administrator.

I've aleady uninstalled and reinstalled BCM/SBA and just, plain BCM
several times. I've deleted the MicrosoftSMLBIZ SQL instance. I've
rebooted several times. I've been doing the install as a Local
Administrator. I see no sign of a "MicrosoftBCMSQL" instance, or
anything like that. It appears that MS is using the MicrosoftSMLBIX
MSDE engine for BCM and SBA.

In this last install (just plain BCM Update, and the BCM SP1), Outlook
2003 kept giving errors during the "finishing the final BCM install
steps....". BCM now seems to be working...but, still, no BCMUsers
group. And, I imagine, it still won't work if I try logging in as a
limited user.

Any hints on how to get a "BCMUsers Group" to magically appear in my
local security groups?

Thanks,
Myron Johnson

You can create the BCMUsers group yourself, its just an NT group, but I
thought BCM v2 no longer used that group, only v1. Anyone who can logon
to a machine should be able to create a private database on a machine
with BCM v2 installed. My v2 machine doesn't have that group.

Thanks for the reply.

I just finished uninstalling EVERYTHING related to BCM, SQL, .NET 2.0,
etc....Every single instance of MSDE is gone on my XP Pro computer.

Now I'm reintalling the BCM V2 software (as Administrator). Then I'll
log off and log back on as a limited user and see if it works. Last
time, every time I tried logging on as a Limited User, I'd get an error
message from Windows Installer (about unable to finish the install due
to administrative rights). And the Limited User couldn't create any new
records in BCM. Changing to a Local Administrator fixes it....but I'm
trying SO hard to use Standard User rights, only.

The Windows Installer may have something pending for after a reboot, so
you could try rebooting after running a Setup program and logging back
in as Admin. Then once everything's settled down, logging out and
logging in as a standard user. Just a guess.

Well, I've got it all working, finally. I can actually log into my
Domain as a Standard User and use BCM V2.

I THINK it was related to the .Net 2.0 or Visual Studio Beta stuff. I
read UseNet posts that Whidbey Beta installs (like mine) would mess up
BCM 2.0.

What I did to make it all work (some steps are probably not needed....)
Removed ALL instances of MSDE SQL databases.
Removed ALL Visual Studio 2005, SQL 2005, and other ASP.Net developer
applications.
Removed .Net 2.0 Beta
FIXED a weird problem with a Visual Studio directory, which was causing
severe errors. Halfway through finally re-installing SBA/BCM, I was
getting messages about "insufficient rights". But I was a DOMAIN ADMIN,
with full LOCAL ADMIN rights! And when I tried logging is as Local
Admin, I STILL got "insufficient rights" messages. I couldn't access or
delete an empty directory, the "Viewer" directory in Crystal Reports in
Visual Studio 2003 .Net. finally took ownership of the directory, gave
myself Full Control, Rebooted, and was able to delete the dumb
directory.

Despite errors and Outlook warnings the first time or two I log into
Outlook and enable BCM, it finally DOES work. I was able to import my
saved .BCM data records into the new MicrosoftSMLBIZ SQL database and
all is well.

Thanks for the info about the BCMUsers Group not being used in BCM V2.
Microsoft has no references to that deletion. I assume the BCMUsers
Group had special rights, either for the Registry, for for the MSDE SQL
databases, that a Standard User doesn't have. Apparently BCM V2 does
away with the need for the special rights.

Whoops. No, it's NOT working. I THOUGHT I'd removed the Local Admin
rights from my Domain User account. But I didn't. I'm still listed as a
Local Admin on my PC.

I removed myself from the Local Admin role and made myself a Local
User.
Now, when I log into my PC, I receive the same "Error finishing client
setup.....insufficient install rights....or something to that effect".
When I open up Outlook 2003 and try to create a new BCM Contact or
Account, I get the same error as before:
"An error occured registering the form in the OLE registry."

I've tried clearing the forms cache, as well as simply deleting the
forms cache .dat file.
No luck.

Everything was working perfectly while I was listed as a Local
Administrator on the XP Pro PC. But now that I've changed back to
Limited User rights, BCM won't allow me to add records.

The logon error message (which didn't occur when I was still the Local
Administraotr) is:

"Client Setup Wizard:
You must be a member of the Local Administrator security group on this
computer to install and configure applications."

I'd already run Outlook and BCM several times using my user account.
I'd already rebooted the computer. I'd already logged in as Domain
Administrator. Zero problems. But as soon as I changed my user rights
(Before: Local Administrator, Domain User) to (After: Local User,
Domain User), the troubles started up.

How are you SUPPOSED to install BCM/SBA? I did the install as a Domain
Administrator, figuring that a "Local User, Domain User" would never be
able to install the software. What rights should you have to install
the BCM/SBA package? And what rights should you have to use the BCM/SBA
package?
