BCM Windows Mobile 6 and finding a contact when you have 4000

I have over 4000 contacts in BCM on my windows mobile phone.

1. How do I spead through the contacts to select a contact. Right now I
have to scroll and that takes a long time if I am looking for Mr Zingo

2. How do I make this my devalt contact list rather than my contacts list
 
This is one thing I hate about Microsoft. I am refererred here to get
answers and as usual many never get answered. I assume it is because the
product is broken and their are no answers.
