Any one know when BCM for PocketPC will run on Windows Mobile 5? Really
furstrating as bought new device but software states it is not for my version
of Windows Mobile!

Hi Sam

BCM for Pocket PC will not work with Windows Mobile 5.0 the reason being
that the version were not avaliable when it was released ,so there was no
chance to test the same. The option might be considered in the upcoming
version fo the BCM update but no promises as of now.

Thanks Raul.

Is there any known way to get Windows Mobile 5 or the BCM software to
believe it is being installed on Windows 2003? For example, is there a
registry value on the Pocket PC than can be changed to permit the install and
then reverted back?

Any ideas anyone, as with the crop of new devices coming on to the market, I
doubt I will be the only one to ask this question.

Cheers.

Hi Sam

To be frank i am unsure about the registry setting that will help you
achive the same but this issue that you stated has been faced by other users
as well .So my guess is they Microsoft would consider the same before the
next version is released.

By the way you can also try posting your queries to the following news group
and see if they can offer you any work arounds

It is extremely alarming that Microsoft seems to show little or no support
for WM 5..0 - no BCM software for WM 5.0. This makes the solutions
impossible to implement in many organizations.

Some basic questions to help "Clue-in" the Small Business Services Division
of Microsoft:

Question: Who is the primary target user group for BCM?
Answer: Individual salespersons who are also usually mobile professionals.

Question: Who is one of the primary users of the Pocket PC or Pocket PC
Phone Editon?
Answer: Individual salespersons who are also usually mobile professionals.

Question: Why is there such a disconnect that allows for a situation to
exist whereby the latest Mobile SW is NOT compatible with the latest BCM
edition (Released within months of each other!) thus making impossible for
there to be a seamless set of tools for this main targeted user base?

I'm not sure if it is a lack of support for WM5 or more of an issue of a
lack of support for BCM!!!

BCM - no OWA with Exchange
BCM - no ActiveSync with WM5
BCM - no true integration with Exchange (PS - I'm pretty sure Exchange has
been around for a while so no excuse about when it came out...)
BCM - no flash or training videos online
BCM - documentation was written by a marketing guy trying to sell the
product - not tech support trying to assist with the product
BCM - named their newsgroup BCM so anyone looking for Business or contact
etc wouldn't even find it!

I understand from talking to the Microsoft technical support people on
the phone last week that BCM for WM5 is still under development due for
release next year, exact date definitely not specified (by which I
assume it's later not earlier). The first edition of WM5 did work with
BCM but not the final release, which is interesting but doesn't help at
all! This particular data did take over a month to elicit from
Microsoft (and required chasing).

This is almost unbelievable. Upgraded my iPaq 4705 to Mobile 5.0 and now I
can't use BCM. Why doesn't Microsoft do a better job about warning folks?
