BCM 2007 merge single contact to letter

Using the new beta2tr of Office2007 with BCM 2007. Trying to create new
letter / fax / quote using contact data from single contact in MS word 2007
and/or Excel.

Have tried creating a mail merge from Word but with 10,000 + contacts in
Business contacts folder it takes about 2 minutes to return the result set.

Have tried in Outlook to go to Tools > Mail Merge when a single contact is
selected but receive message SQL Statement executed is "Select "*" from
Business contacts" and again, the process is excruciatingly slow.

Is there any way to quickly create a letter / fax cover with contact data
from within outlook?
 
What about saving off the resulting set, from Outlook Merge screen, in BCM
2003, it's the Contact data file section of the window. Doesn't that output
selected Contacts to a reusable file for merges?
