In audio settings I cannot choose X-fi because it says my hardware is
not compatible :( I can only choose Software or Hardware.

I have my "Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ XtremeMusic 7.1" set to games mode but
this does not help.

My on-board sound has been disabled in the BIOS.

My drivers are up to date.

Full system spec is here: http://pcspec.brion.co.uk

I have Googled and searched the EA forum but not found an answer :(

Well this is a sound card problem, you want to check the Creative Labs
support site for help. Vista basically hoses all Creative Labs cards. Last I
heard Creative Labs has a temporary fix called OpenAL (It's like OpenGL
which is for graphics, but OpenAL is for Audio), which if you install it
will allow some games to correctly work with EAX.

Because of this bug I didn't move my Audigy 2ZS to my new Vista system
instead opting to use the crummy onboard audio.

Someone might chime in with a better solution in a moment, but for now,
check out www.creative.com. Find your sound card in the support area of
their website and look for Vista fixes.

Good luck... Yer gonna need it.

p.s. It's possible all these issues have been resolved by now. I just know
that Microsoft basically HOSED the biggest PC sound card maker for
consumer/non-professionals. It's a shame too, the X-fi does sound amazing. I
also blame Creative Labs, they had 3 years since Vista's announcement to
prepare their sound cards for Vista and they dropped the ball. It'll cost
em.

Thanks

I Already installed Alchemy but have not had time to look into it. I've
now set it up for most of my games. Hopefully this will make some
difference.

I've swapped over to my on-board Realtek HD 7.1 audio (in quad mode) for
now as at least that gives me more than just stereo.

I'll swap back if creative fix the problem with the x-fi, but I'm not
holding my breath.

I tried Alchemy on the x-fi but it never used the rear speakers :(
