Battery to keep data in RAM?

Hello,

I can put my desktop computer in standby mode and retrieve my session
properly. However if I unplug the computer in the meantime, I can't
retrieve a session and I have to start the computer from scratch, I
guess this is because unplugging the computer voids the RAM data,
correct? Is there a way to keep data in RAM if I unplug the computer?
I'm thinking about a battery or the like. Please let me know!

The standby state keeps the processor running too, so even if you keep the
RAM going via battery, you still can't power off the PC.

A thing along these lines does exist, but it is expensive and I can't
remember what it is called. It involved flash memory and batteries and I
think it was a PCI card, but that doesn't narrow it down much.

You should investigate hibernate state instead - a true 'power off' state.

No, there is no reasonable battery solution. You could hack
something together which would be expensive and handmade
taking a great deal of time. It would simply need to
recharge the battery pack then supply 5VSB to the board.

Don't unplug it. There's little reason to unplug it anyway,
you can always suspend to disk instead of RAM if you simply
must unplug it.

Thanks guys. I think I'll use the hibernate mode when I have to unplug
the computer.

Once any PC is turned off, you lose all data in the ram boards.
