Batching Index Service?

Hi,
Rather than have Index Service chugging away seemingly incessantly, is
there a way I might do a batch indexing of a HDD's files, other than
going in one night to turn it on for all of my (more-than-a-few)
drives/partitions, and turning it off the next day?

Further, is there a way one can get a solid metric on just much a drive
might benefit from indexing (something along the lines of what is
reported by the disk frag utility)?

Many thanks,
Dave J B

Use a Desktop-Search tool e.g. Windows Desktop Search, Copernic Desktop search or
Google Desktop search.

Good Luck, Ayush.

Thanks, Ayush.
Upon looking at descriptions of what you suggested, Google's DTS
(desktop search) looks like a disaster (sorry, neighbors). Windows' DTS
is running a (background) indexing service, which is precisely what I
want to avoid; I'll check out Copernic's.

Dave
