Greetings!
I am having a problem with networking 2 pc's under
windows xp pro. Here is the scenario.
10bt xover cable
* *
| win xp pro |------------------------| win xp pro |
| |
------ -------
dialup dialup
v.90 v90
------ ** ------- **
| |
(internet) (internet)
** == internet routeable address
* == private non routeable lan address.
Network Description
1) Both xp computers have a 10bt network adapter
configured manually to have a tcp/ip address of
169.254.163.6 and 169.254.163.10, respectively.
Result
1) from both computers, I can ping both the local lan
ip, as well as the internet.
2) I cannot, however, reach the network neighborhood and
view the other computer. I right click on "My Network
Places" -> "view workgroup computers", and expect to see
a list of all pc's on the lan by name. --> I do not.
Instead I see the following error:
"WORKGROUP" is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is currently
unavaiable."
Things to note
1) The account is an administrator account
2) the "net view" command comes back with the following
error:
"System error 6118 has occured.
The list of servers for this workgroup is currently
unavailable".
3) nbtstat -A <IP Address> comes back with nothing
Any help, ideas, thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
