Basic Terminal Services questions

Hi All,

Just a few basic terminal services questions:

- Will Terminal Services work with Windows 2000 Server?
- If I buy 5 CALs, does this mean 5 simultaneous logins or just 5 fixed
useraccounts on the server being able to use TS?
- I want 2 users to be able to use Office 2000 on the server, do I need
to buy 5 licenses or will 2 suffice?

Thanks
Deeeep

Hi All,

Just a few basic terminal services questions:

- Will Terminal Services work with Windows 2000 Server? [ERIC] - Yup.
- If I buy 5 CALs, does this mean 5 simultaneous logins or just 5 fixed
useraccounts on the server being able to use TS?
[ERIC] - Depends what OS we're talking about. In W2K, 5 cal's meant 5
workstations that can be used to log on to the ts server. That might be 100
different users on each one, or one user that has 5 workstations, but 5
cal's mapped to 5 workstations that can ts in.
In W2K03, we added a new mode called per-user licensing. In per user
licensing, you can now say that 5 cal's maps to 5 people, no matter where
they log on from and how many machines they log on from. I'm a big fan of
per user licensing, as most users find that their ts users tend to have more
than 1 computer, or at least use more than 1 computer regularly.
- I want 2 users to be able to use Office 2000 on the server, do I need
to buy 5 licenses or will 2 suffice?
[ERIC] - This would probably be better answered by the Office guru's, but my
understanding is that 2 is just fine. I'd double check with them as I'd hate
to steer you wrong.
