I have Windows XP Home (1 month now--love it). For some
reason, my basic sounds won't play anymore--i.e. sign-on,
sign-off, warning beeps, etc. I've run all of the sound
tests (worked perfectly), checked for "mute" problem,
read FAQ's, searched the knowledge base (as best I could)
and browsed everything I could think of. I can't find a
solution. Problem occured after I downloaded Moviemaker
2. Help, please! I want my sounds back. Thanks.

Joy, reinstall your audio drivers. Check in Device Manager to see if
there's any yellow marks next to any of the audio
devices. If so rt click and choose uninstall. Let WinXP reinstall the
drivers.

Hi. There are no yellow marks next to any of the audio
devices--everything states they are working properly. As
to reinstalling audio drivers, I assume you mean the
Windows drivers, but how do I do that? From my install
CD? The XP sound "troubleshooter" indicates they're all
working (at least sound plays during the tests)and my
Windows Media Player works perfectly. Could a turn off
command exist somewhere?

I had the same problem a long time ago, and someone posted a message to this
group that solved my problem. Do you have NeroMix on your system? If so,
either uninstall it... or get an update from Nero's website, www.nero.com
This helped me, and my sounds came back. Good luck!!
