Basic Security Question

I am in the process of building a website for a local fire department
using Frontpage. We would like to have a "secured area" where members
can have a user name and password to access the area. Does frontpage
have a built in system for this, or is another program needed? We are
just looking for the basics, nothing super special.

Thanks,
Adam

You could create what FrontPage Calls "Subwebs". Say you have your
files on the root directory, or even sorted into folders. You could
create another folder for the files/pages you want to have someone sign
into.

Then right-click that folder, and click "Convert to Web". Once it's
converted, you will need to set some properties. Double click the newly
created "subweb" (so that you're now browsing inside the contents of
the new subweb) and then go to "tools" menu, and then "Server" and then
"Administration Home" (or "permissions" generally gets you to the same
place).
From the administrative home, (you will need to log in using your admin
username/password) you can change the anonymous browsing feature for
that particular subweb. Simply turn anonymous browing off. That will
cause anyone who attempts to surf to the pages within that subweb, be
prompted for a username and password. From this "administraive home"
page, you'll want to define a few usernames & passwords that you'd like
people to use.
