Hi all. I'm real new at Excel and have a basic question.
How do I create a column heading?
Sorry for boring yall with the basics but I have to start
somewhere.

Hi

we all had to start at the begining :) ((just for some of us it was a LONG
time ago!))

i'm not sure what you mean by a column heading though? could you explain a
bit more what you're trying to achieve.

Cheers

first started using PCs in 1985 ... but i was a lotus user then, didn't
switch to Excel until 1995 ... didn't really start using it beyond a v.basic
level though until about 3 years ago

eeek!

Basic column heading would be to type a word into a cell on Row 1

A1 Name
B1 Number
C1 Street
D1 City
E1 State

If not what you're looking for, post back or wait for others to post varying
solutions.

How do I create a column heading?

Sometimes, a "Column Heading" may have the following meaning. In a column
of text, a column heading may be the top cell, in which this top cell is
formatted differently then the text below it. Making the top cell Bold, or
Italic, is often a way to make this a "Column Heading". It depends on the
context you are referring to.

As an example, suppose you have text in A1:A5 that are formatted the same.
If you do <Data><Sort> then Excel does not know if the top cell is a "Column
Heading." However, if you format cell A1 as Bold, then redo the Sort
command, Excel will assume A1 is a "Column Heading", and sort accordingly.
