Hi guys, basically i have a compaq, amd athlon 64, 2.01Ghz, 512Mb RAM, etc etc....

For my own interest, i want to start upgrading my pc, maybe make it a bit more powerful..n maybe make it look a bit more lively!!?

Is it easy enough to get new cases etc..i mean is all cases you can buy, the same size etc, or do i have to measure my one now or what?!!

Cheers

ok, so does this mean that if i buy a new case, i will be taking all the parts out of my current case individually, then fixing them to the new case yeh?

Yep, unless you glue the 2 cases together and have wires running between them

how much are you looking at spending on a case, and i will think of some reccomendations

ok, i cant think of any for that price, mine was £54.05

£30-40 would get you a reasnoble one...

when i started looking for a case, i thought £20 would cover it, and then realised it wouldnt :(

Ah ok, bout 30 or 40, thats kool, il check it out in some of the shops round town tomoro, the net would prob b cheaper tho...cheers for ur help m8

No probs, though if you have a very large motherboard, i would reccomend taking measurments. but it should fit

as long as the case will accept ATX motherboards you'll be fine, the external measurements will vary but the bigger the case the more room to work and the less cut fingers from sharp edges

i suggest getting a full tower, very spacious, you could live in there:D

aria.co.uk do a good range of budget ATX cases that should suit your needs.
Also check out the case review in the User review section on this site.
Cases are a good place to start upgrading, as it gives you initial experience of removing and (re)installing all your components, you should be surprised at how easy it actually is.
If you do need any help with upgrading then don't hesitate to make another post, and you'll find plenty of people here that will be happy to help :)

Hmmm, am i the only one that noticed him say compaq? ok, well a case is nothing. exchangable on any system... however. upgrading other componets will probly leave you stuck...

Companies like Compaq or HP... want you to use their items, they are extremly picky bout mixing componets.

Plan on flashing your bios if you change anything, have a boot cd ready too. and your gonna need to reformat... i've seen it bad enough where we had to reformat using Fdisk... it is possible though.

Also, running at just above 2 gigz. means its probly a 2600 or better... thats plenty fast enough, most i would say to do is upgrade to 1gig of ram, also.. anyway you could find out your bus speed? And your ram speed...

Do you game much? If so, you may want to upgrade from your onboard (probly 64mb 32-bit) gfx card.

Let us know a lil more bout your system and what you use it for... What do you want it to do... why is it not fast enough for you? If that set up isnt fast enough, it's probly more of a software issue....

Good luck, cheers.
