I've just switched from a non-MS PS2 mouse to a "basic
optical mouse"<01202 Part No. X09-13932> with the wheel.
I'm using it as a USB device and works fine except the
wheel doesn't function. It came with no driver disk/cd and
I can't find a driver to download from MS's site. In
device manager it's showing up as a HID compliant mouse.

Any suggestions on which mouse/device driver to select to
get the scrolling wheel working?

Thanks.

I was going to refer you to the Microsoft hardware page but you mouse is
not Intellipoint compatible (sorry), so I guess we have to do this the
hard way. Anyways, the next best thing you can do is configure your
mouse by opening up the Control Panel (Start->Settings->Control Panel)
and then double clicking on the Mouse icon. You might be able to fix the
settings here.

As the mouse driver is for a HID....there is no wheel
control/option. I need another driver to load....and then
likely it will immediately see/offer the wheel feature.
The mouse box lists Win2000 as compatible so I would have
thought it would immediately see it and load the proper
driver. In the past I've installed wheel mice and they
would be immediately recognized and work.....but that is
on WinXP.

I have a Gyration wireless mouse and keyboard. It did not come with any
driver discs. I just plugged it in and booted up and it works fine. The
scroll wheel works fine even though the wheel does not show up under the
mouse icon in the control panel.
