Hi - I am new to networking - and really am not sure if this is a
'network' (per se) problem.

I have an old laptop running Win98SE and I want to copy all of the
data on it(about 5gb) onto the HDD of my desktop which is running
WInXP. The only reason I want to do it is so I can format the laptop
and put a 'clean install' of Win98 back on it. I would prefer to
install XP but 64mb ram and 64mb extended ram might object to XP!

Being that the laptop doesn't have a networking card - what is the
best way to do this?

I have linked the two via ' Com 1 ' and the connection has been
achieved but I don't know how (IF ???) I can access the data from one
computer to the other.

Some boffin mentioned USB links and communications software but to be
honest it went over my head!

Any one out there can offer advice.

Thanks

Mike

128 MB RAM should be enough to run XP, even 64 would be enough.

By a PCMCIA network card and use that.

You could use lapling but it would be slow.
