basic motherboard

I'm going to buy an Athlon64 3000+
so I need a socket 754 mobo with
K8T00 chipset.

Every motherboard I've seen has
advanced features that I don't need
such as RAID, Onboard audio & LAN
capability. Are there any boards
without these features? All I need
is your no-thrills motherboard, but
I can't find one without the fancy
stuff.

It is really quite amazing. Even the cheap suppliers are fully on the
"integrated" bandwagon. This ECS board has a bunch of stuff bundled,
so there is no escape

Go to http://www.newegg.com and search on K8T800. You will find
several boards for $100, and that is the cheapest I could find there.
They don't have too much extra stuff. The boards with the 8237
Southbridge might be marginally better than the 8235. The part number
is +2 after all

Since silicon designers are now swept up in the "System On A Chip"
craze, as time goes on, expect to find more onboard goodies, but
without needing to add yet more peripheral chips. For example, we
will soon get Southbridge chips with built in Wireless logic (they
will still need RF ccts and antenna, but the rest of the logic will
be built-in).

You'll be paying for it, whether you use it or not.

The Athlon 64 is a high end CPU so they're only offering high end boards to
go with it currently.
