I'm running a Gateway XP AMD athlon 64 processor 4000+ with IE 6.0 with SP2.
I want to upgrade to IE 7 as required for better experience by several 3d
virtual communities that I frequent.

First, does IE6 need to be removed once IE7 is installed?
Second, about how long will this take?
Are there any glitches I need to know about for making such an upgrade?

Any help and advice is appreciated.

Under normal situations, its a seamless upgrade.
You do not need to uninstall IE6. If you go to windows update page via
your start menu, IE7 should be one of the normal updates supplied. If
you don't have automatic updates turned on or opted out of that
particular update, then just opt it back in and let WU do its thing.
You will also then have to apply several updates to IE7 as they have
found bugs in the initial distribution too.

I'm sure too there are install options directly from MS if you go to
their web site and search.

I've done it via the WU process about 2-3 times (reloads) and have no
ill effects. Its a different feel etc but my bookmarks copy over etc.
I do like the tab feature. I use Firefox and they had it first.
So I had to have it in IE when I need IE for websites.

Time is a factor of your PC. I did not think it was more than minutes.
Nothing on the scale of 30 minutes.
