Excel Basic Excel question

My problem is that within Excel, I am trying to convert a date/time stamp (that was imported from another program) in which the time stamp is as follows: 8/10/2011 8:31:36 AM into just the time. However the time needs to be 8 minutes and 31 secs and 36 msecs.

Select the cell, select format cell, Pick Number, custom, and apply the h:mm:ss type.

Hi,

Doesn't that just change the format and not the actual number, I will be running analysis, i.e ANOVAs wth these times and want to make sure they will be accurate. Thanks
