Base System Devices can not be determined in Vista Ultimate

Hi,

I bought Vista Ultimate Full Version & a new 100GB 7,200 RPM Hitachi
for a Inspiron 6400.(I wanted to be able to trade out drives to use each
system, instead of dual booting, due to issues I've seen with Vista's
bootloader & XP)

I downloaded all the Vista Hardware Drivers,(that there were anyway)
for Vista 64-Bit, from The Dell download Site.

I have two "Base System Devices" that attempt to look for drivers, that
don't appear to exist. Everything on the notebook, appears to work flawlessly
at this point &
Windows cannot determine what they are.
Dell's Tech support says, I need to use Microsoft for support. I told them,
if the device manager, is stating that hardware needs drivers, then it's
their job,
but they say otherwise.

How do I go about determining what these two Base System Devices are & how
to find drivers for them?

I'm stumped.

TIA,

Use Device Manager to get the PCI Vendor ID and Device ID from each unknown
device. Look on the Details tab for each unknown device and get the
Hardware ID value, it will look like :

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0269&SUBSYS_73501462&REV_A3

In this case the Vendor is 10DE and the Device is 0269)

Once you have this, go here:

http://www.pcidatabase.com/

That may help you track down the vendor or device type. Personally I'm
betting that it's devices that Dell has not bothered writing 64-bit drivers
for.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the Information. Dell has yet to write 64 bit Ricoh Drivers for
their
"Ricoh Memory Stick Host Controller" and "Ricoh MMC Host Controller" Which I
found on the link you provided. I guess Dell is resting on their laurels,
since Vista does come with a "Ricoh xD-Picture Card Host Controller" which I
think will allow the
Card slot to at least function. I have to get my SD card from my Toshiba
M200, and check it, will let you know, what I find.

Thanks Again!

Regards,
