Is BartPE supposed to show desktop icons of available drives, instead
of playing about with the filemanager program. Thanks for any reply.

I have used BartPE, and I used the A43 File Management Utility
which was better than the other - I could see all avalable drives,
and map network drives as well.

I am not sure what you mean, are you expecting desktop icons like in
linux KDE? The raw BartPE doesn’t show that. Some of the other plugins
like XPE and BSExplorer might, I don’t know. The drives are shown in
the device manager, A43 file manager, as well as Total Commander and
other file manager plugins.

BartPE is not running the XP desktop. So you won't see icons.

BartPE is only running the XP kernel and a few other critical system
programs.

When using the XPE plugin BartPE uses EXPLORER.EXE as shell.
Than you can use and see Desktop Icons.
But before creating the PE-CDROM you have to specify for each program
if you want a desktop icon or not.

Ah, must have missed that plugin or it's new. I haven't updated
Bart's in months.
