I purchased an Averatec. Extremely pleased. Can't add memory or a hardYou can buy and build a desktop because the parts are mostly
standard, off the shelf items. But laptops use custom mobo,
power supplies, graphics and other parts designed for each
particular laptop. I doubt you can build a laptop or even
update one that you buy used.
You can buy a new Dell laptop very inexpensively these days
(and other makers) so why try to reinvent the wheel?

Actually, I just found out a friend just referred me to a site recommend
by CPU mag called www.rjtech.com that sells a barebone ASUSZ71V chassis,
which is comparable to a Dell or Compaq. Once I get the chassis,
everything else, regarding components will fall into place.
Because I've already built a desktop, I want to take the challenge of
building my own notebook.
