Well Rod, my friend disconnected the hd, dvd combo power and just left in the
video card and booted up the system for the first time. It came on, but there
was no post on the screen and it shut itself down after about 10 seconds of
running. he called the so called tech support of the vendor and he said to
unseat the heat sink and then reseat it...but then he said, not to do it...he
would have to send the unit back. My friend said he packed it up and he will
get a refund, minus the shipping costs. Now hes stuck in a way with a new video
card, dvd combo. Looks like he would have to get another barebones unit, at
least for dvd combo, which due to this experience he is not looking forward to
it. Does anyone know of a brand unit that allows upgrading of such units as
hd's, dvd's and etc.? It seem like only 3rd party units would allow it. HP,
Dell, Sony and even the E-machines don't give you that option.

He probably just had a poorly seated CPU or memory module. Anyways, he did
the right thing by returning it. His best bet is to get a "Barebones"
system built around a Supermicro motherboard. Or if he feels comfortable to
just buy the components and put them together himself. Try searching
www.pricewatch.com for good deals. Also, check www.supermicro.com for the
motherboard that meets your needs. Good luck.

Yeah, very likely what the problem was.

Yeah, easy to bugger that up in the process.

Yeah, probably wise. In my country you
wouldnt even lose the shipping costs.

Sure, but its best to not get put off
by the ocassional dud transaction.

Most brand name systems dont.
It seem like only 3rd party units would allow it.

Yep, which is why avoid the brand name systems.

True.

What country is that? I want to move there:)

Sheesh. You Outhouse Express users and your mutilated quoting. It
makes you look really, truely clueless. Get a real newsreader, will
ya?

What's so great about SuperMicro? Knowing you, it's that they offer
on-board SCSI.

I'd say that anyone who can deal with a "barebones" may just as well
buy everything sperate. I like the Intel brand motherboards, and
bought their 865PERLK for my new PC.

And, what has this to do with anything? Nice try for someone who's clueless
trolling attempts aren't working.

Nothing out of the ordinary other than the fact that they make a superior
product that is price competitive. And, yes, they do make them with
on-board SCSI for the people that require them.

Intel boards are OK, but nothing to brag about. Dollar for dollar I would
have chosen a Supermicro board for your application instead of the Intel.
Bottom line, if you're happy and don't know any better than that is all that
matters.

It's got to do with fools who leave-behind a huge unreadable mess, and
are to stupid and/or lazy to aquire proper tools, or at least delete
the unreadable mess.

Your life must be very empty and miserable if all you have to look forward
to is complaining about my choice of browsers. Go now and pick some pimples
little boy.

Forte Agent? Isn't that the one that wrecks the quoting on send but you
don't notice it because it cleans it up again on read? That Forte Agent?
That's the equivalent of OE with OE-QuoteFix installed.

Now, let's talk about your writing skills.

And you must be incredibly stupid if you think that "your choice of
browser" is the issue here. The issue is your selfishness and
laziness. If you're going to make a mess, clean it up.

I must be. Nevertheless, until you send me $5,000 for this dual Xeon SCSI
system I'm using, yes SCSI, I will use whatever OS and browser I like. And,
if using this browser has the added benefit of pissing off the mentally and
socially challenged trolls I see it as a major advantage. So, again little
boy, if you don't like it you are more than welcome to kill fill me. Have a
nice day.

So, leaving-behind a huge unreadable mess is a "good thing", because
some people will complain about it. In other words, you're a jerk and
proud of it. Amazing.
