I Googled around a couple of weeks ago looking for things. I found stuff
that will convert to the standard formats but was looking for something
freeform for some in-house tracking. I found these:

However I haven't spent the time to find out how to make them work. I would
think they have to be a particular size but don't know for certain.

See my response, barcode97 is great, free and will make just about
any format and any size. Works great. I point my customers to it if they
need free form stuff
