Bar Chart Delima

I am working with a column type bar chart (using series in rows information), to show some 12 month trend information. As I update from month to month, I simply hide the oldest month (column) and add a new column to the front of the chart. I am using color coded bars to depict good, fair, and bad trends. The problem comes when I hide the oldest column of information - PowerPoint automatically changes the bar color on the (new) oldest column of information bar to the color of the bar that I hid, subsequently changing all months ahead of this point. My data information remains accurate, but the bars have to be manually changed to the correct color. Is there a way to lock the bar colors to prevent this problem

Hi Rick,

you could do it with a trick: use three rows of values, one each for good,
fair and bad values, with no values at all in two of the rows which are not
applicable. Format your rows according to your color code: row one is color
A=bad, row two is color B=fair, row three is color C=good. Now define
"stacked columns" as diagram type (if you use "columns" only, they will not
be evenly spaced).

When adding a value, add it to the right row according to its trend and it
will have the right color and keep it even if you delete/hide other values.

Kind regards,
Ute
