hello
I have a win2000server computer as a router with 2 network cards using NAT.
i would like to know if it is possible to limit bandwidth for hosts on the
private network using windows or any software for windows .
p.s. this is my netork structure :
[(intrenet) <---> modem <----> SERVER <----> switch <----> hosts]

It never work right in ISA2000 so they are even dropping it in ISA2004 and
aren't even going to bother with it.

You can't do that with the operating system. There are firewall/router devices that
can do that to some degree or look at ISA server from Microsoft as your
firewall/gateway. See the KB article below on how that works. ISA has a trial limited
download if you want to try it. --- Steve

yes its called bandwidth throttling, try the help files, although it does pertain to iis and web servers
This article was previously published under Q238145
SUMMARY
When you enable bandwidth throttling, Internet Information Services (IIS) activates a set of counters to monitor it in System Monitor (SysMon). These counters can be identified by "Async I/O" in the counter name. These counters are active only when bandwidth throttling is enabled. (If bandwidth throttling is not enabled, the counters appear in SysMon, but they always have a value of zero.)
MORE INFORMATION
The Async I/O counters are part of the Internet Information Services Global performance object. They represent totals for all of the IIS services. Bandwidth is not measured for each service. The following table lists and describes the Async I/O counters.

Counter Indicates
Internet Information Services Global: Current Blocked Async I/O Requests The number of requests blocked (that is, held in a buffer until bandwidth is available) by bandwidth throttling as reported during the most recent observation.
Internet Information Services Global: Total Allowed Async I/O Requests The number of requests allowed by bandwidth throttling since the service was last started.
Internet Information Services Global: Total Blocked Async I/O Requests The number of requests blocked (that is, held in a buffer until bandwidth is available) by bandwidth throttling since the service was last started.
Internet Information Services Global: Total Rejected Async I/O Requests The number of requests rejected by bandwidth throttling since the service was last started.
Internet Information Services Global: Measured Async I/O Bandwidth Usage/Minute The number of bytes sent per minute as indicated by a sample taken by bandwidth throttling.

If you dont want to distribute bandwidth amongst hosts,
ie: 3/4 th of the b/w to few hosts and 1/4 of the b/w to
remaining hosts, install bandwidthcontroller from
www.bandwidthcontroller.com
It also lets you use filters to configure b/w blockage to
respective hosts.

The server does not provide this. There are two programs that can be used.
bandwidthcontroller from www.bandwidthcontroller.com or Sygate office
network www.sygate.com. I personally prefer Sygate Office Network because it
only controls the bandwidth shared through internet (NAT) whereas
bandwidthcontroller limits all traffic passing thought the network card
undistinguishing if its passing to Internet or just to the server.

Interesting. I am playing with ISA 2004 and was wondering why I could not find those
settings. Is it just me or is ISA 2004 a whole lot more intuitive to set up and
se? --- Steve
